不可敗下來

我得快,只有快能買更多的時間。
一樣一樣解決,不能亂七八糟的一起做。
紋身說得對,只有目標,不需要計畫。

要,就去做;問題來了,就解決。

目標:完成自己滿意的

Analysing Architecture

This is one of my favorite lecture, today talk about parallel wall.
well, why most of the wall are parallel? but not in weird curves of miserable angles?
Firstly, cost efficient, easy to design, easy to build, especially the roof.
parallel walls gives you the transition feeling of a space to another, like hallway;
create focus, think of the high parallel gothic church wall and the alter at the other end;
repeatable, think of terrace houses.

Simon bet that us as young aspiring architects will rebel this old fashion thoughts, design some weird forms and spaces. Of course, parallel wall can be interesting too, all depends on how you use it.

One point struck my mind and make me change my idea of parallel wall. Parallel wall in architecture = scale in music.  How true is this! For so many years I have been practicing scales on trumpet, cause I know that it's the basic of mastering trumpet. So should I as an architect. Smart composers play with scales, ascends and descends throughout the staff, with interesting variations, and some colours in between the scales..

construction

2 meters high tower..
terrible group, brilliant idea by me of course...
one week short project, structural study.
Santiago Calatrava, an architecture who explore possibility with structure. My idol.
I might go into engineering + architecture style one day.

Celebrating the Arrival of 2nd Parcel !

Yay, so happy to get something from Malaysia!
It just took nearly 10 weeks to ship by sea to reach me and was dated 14 Nov 2008 when sent. For this parcel, I can't find any stamp, not like the previous one, which I kept the stamp, just a statement noted RM116.60.

A question come to me: Is it worthy to send something which cost extra RM100(for the posting fee) even if most of the things can get here? What is the minimum price of goods sent for it to be worthwhile?

The postal price is slightly>RM100( just 20GBP). Considering the price of goods at UK, I can say the average goods at UK is about 3 to 4 times more expensive than Malaysia. A proper meal, 3.5GBP≈RM20. Perhaps you can't get this low price in other big city.

Say an item, a shirt, I can get it for RM50 in Malaysia, but RM150 in UK { 3X (minimum) more expensive in UK}, so I save RM100 if send from Malaysia.
SO, the access of RM100 postal cost is compensated if the goods cost RM50 in Malaysia.

Means, economically, it is only worth to send a parcel if the goods are RM50 n above in Msia.

However, a lot of things I can't get in this particular small town, or I should call it kampung if compare to the big city of other University, like Glasgow,and Manchester. There is no ASDA(like Tesco, but cheaper) here, not even a single Japanese restaurant, less variety of raw foods, and many are 'seasonal'; for instance this week there is pineapple, but the next week no.

Anyway, I like this small and humble city! Surprisingly, University of Dundee has many 'number one' rank in Scotland. The Architecture School is even the top 5 in UK(1st in Scotland of course), after Cardiff, Cambridge, Bath, and UCL. One of our professor is even an ex-lecture from Cardiff.
